missin my babies


I've been watching the movie RUDY. Once, at a teacher party, my late colleague Peter Stepan pronounced this movie most like me. Never having seen the movie, I was less than flattered. Now, I think it the highest compliment.

For twenty odd years, all I have heard from my husband and his family is that I am less than and I have struggled to prove that I am more than via acquiring language, education, keeping my head above financial flood waters and whatever life has thrown my way. It's ridiculous for me to try to prove myself to THEM. Guess I'm also trying to prove it to myself.

Lately, I've been thinking of giving up. Why keep struggling, suffering, hoping to achieve the things I dream of? I dunno. After watching this movie, seeing as how Peter thought I was a Rudy, maybe I'd better keep trying, striving, believing, and hoping.

My children are in Dallas with their father, grandparents, and my ex sister-in-law who is here from Jakarta. Knowing that I am a likely topic of conversation is upsetting. I never could fit in with that family,was never good enough and have never been. My motherhood is being evaluated, my failed marriage,all to my detriment. I know this. My kids are likely to hear more than once "don't be like your mother" this weekend.

My kids have been with me since birth. It's so hard now to have them elsewhere without me.

    It is hard to have your kids away from you.
    Do NOT give up.. You are not 2nd class or less than them. You are a wonderful, smart, beautiful woman and you deserve so much more than what you got from him and his family. Do not let anyone make you feel less than you are. You have the power to do that. Don't let anyone tell you that you are inferior. YOU ARE NOT! And I am thinking your kids are smart enough and know you enough to not listen to any crap about you.
    Be a Rudy!!! He is awesome and so are you!

Oh, I almost forgot. I have a question for you all. My X's mother's birthday just passed. His father's birthday is in a week or so and his birthday a bit after. I thought about having the kids call their Oma (grandma) to wish happy birthday but opted not to. I think he should be responsible for that. What do I do about this and/or his upcoming birthday? Empty Arms

It was a rough weekend. I was feeling pretty blue to begin with--grieving the loss of my little family which has shattered to pieces, leaving just me and my son under one roof. Dunno what precipitated that pity party, but it was going on since Thursday. Friday, Son's father didn't call, text, or come to pick him up. Son was not inclined to make the effort either. I guess he figures that if his father wants him, he'd initiate. Saturday morning was particularly rough because Son had Saturday School---kind of like detention on Saturday, for being tardy to class after PE. Moving fast is not his strong suit ever. Plus, he doesn't wake up and get going easily either. Basically, Saturday was filled with Son's fussing, homework, tears, slamming of doors,and lot's of I-hate-you's. Yeah, pretty miserable all the way around. I think maybe it was a reaction to how he feels about what's happening with his dad. OR not happening. It culminated in Son sobbing in hi...

In some ways, I feel like I have taken three steps backward. Once again, there seem to be impulse, urges, voices all about but I cannot trust them. Since the dissolution of my marriage, I'm the ball in a pinball machine (If you are old enough to remember those!). I've been shot out of a cannon to bounce around, briefly clinging on to one thing then on to another. It's a scary, confusing place to find myself in. On the household front, I took my son down to the river walk to listen to the music, walk around, enjoy the evening air. Unfortunately, we were there but five minutes when he saw the puppies. So, we came home with two, yes TWO, young puppies who had been abandoned and brought t o river walk by a kindly couple. Since then, wow. busy busy busy with the lil tykes. I'll have to go back to work in a week or so---the first week in August. Not too thrilled about that, but I guess it's time to earn my paycheck so I can do all this again next summer!
